Constantly carrying around a food baby?
Ever feel like you are doing everything right but you still can’t kick the bloat?
Nothing is worse (especially in the warm seasons) than feeling puffy for no reason!
Here are a few seemingly healthy things that might be behind your bloated belly:
Seems a little counterintuitive that this is on the list because fiber is so GOOD. Fiber is knows for fighting bloat as it keeps everything moving through our system. Fiber works so well because we are unable to digest it so it acts like a broom and sweeps out our insides.
On the contrary, consuming too much of something that your body can’t digest can have the opposite effect. Womp womp.
Fermented foods –
Also sooo good for your gut! But we need to monitor how much of these foods we are consuming. The bacteria found in these foods can overload your gut and actually produce the gases that cause bloating.
You have a 30 minute lunch break so you run to a salad bar, let them whip you up a healthy bowl, hold the dressing, grab some lemon juice instead. Seemingly you are doing everything right? Not exactly. The insoluble fiber found in some veggies can be really tough for our stomachs to digest. Some of these include spinach, peas, bell peppers, onions, broccoli, cauliflower & cabbage. It also helps reducing the variety of vegetables you are eating in one sitting. E.g. Instead of making a stir fry with 8 different veggies, try gently cooking one vegetable on its own as a side.
Trying to replace sugary soda with a zero calorie can of seltzer? Try some fruit infused water instead. The carbonation in beverages can play a part in your tummy problems. Kick the vodka sodas and try for vodka water with a bunch of lemons instead!
Here is another probiotic rich food that is meant to be gut friendly. First of all, flavored greek yogurt can contain a lot of sugar which is tough on your stomach. The gas causing bacteria like to feed off of sugar and therefore end up producing more gas & causing even more bloating.
But the biggest cause for bloating from dairy is the fact that approximately 65% of the United States is lactose intolerant!! Bloating happens to be a very common side effect of this.
A little confusing right?
TOTALLY not trying to confuse you – but becoming aware of some of these things has been a game changer for me and can hopefully give you guys some relief too!!
Stay un-bloated my friends!
