So, if you’re a friend of mine you have most likely tried this salad…a few times.
I make this salad at home at least once a week, and I can proudly say I am somehow still not sick of eating it!
It’s super easy to throw together, its visually stunning, not to mention I could sip this dressing like a glass of wine (don’t judge me).
Not only is this salad great for a weeknight dinner – but its also a pretty impressive salad when you are cooking for friends. I will put together a few dishes when I have guests over and this salad is always the thing that stands out.
If you’re feeling a little under the weather this salad is great too – its packed with tons of fresh ginger and garlic which are great for their antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties to help kick that lingering cold or flu.
Hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

Delicious appetizer or side salad.
Easily transform this into a main course by adding some grilled shrimp or your protein of choice!
- 1 Red Cabbage (large), thinly sliced (Optional mix red & white cabbage)
- 2 Celery stalks, thinly sliced
- 2 Carrots, julienned
- 1 Red Bell Pepper, thinly sliced
- 3 Scallions, sliced
- 1 tsp Lemon zest
- 1/4 cup Cilantro, coarsely chopped
- 2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 3 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 Tbsp Fresh Lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp Rice Wine Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Raw Honey or Maple Syrup
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce (Use Tamari instead for gluten-free option)
- 1 Tbsp Freshly grated Ginger
- 2 Garlic cloves, minced into a paste
- Salt & Pepper to taste
-
Start by preparing the dressing. Whisk all ingredients together until well combined. Set aside.
-
In a large bowl combine all of the slaw ingredients except for the sesame seeds and the lemon zest.
-
Toss dressing well through fresh slaw ingredients and let sit for 15-20 minutes, giving time for the ingredients to absorb the dressing.
-
In a pan on med/high heat, sauté the sesame seeds until golden brown - remove from heat and set aside to cool.
-
Once ready to serve, sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds and lemon zest. Enjoy!
